Journal of Eating Disorders – the first 365 days

Today marks the first anniversary of the launch ofJournal of Eating Disorders. To celebrate this important milestone in the journal’s history, Editors-in-ChiefPhillipa HayandStephen Touyzhave written an anniversaryeditorial, describing the achievements of the last year, and the future outlook of the journal.

Over the past 365 days,Journal of Eating Disordershas published over 40 articles, including research papers (67%), reviews (20%), book reviews and editorials/letters/commentaries, and these have beenwell-accessedby the community. We have also invited authors (Janet Treasure & Ulrike Schmidt;Eric Stephen & Jennifer Rose) to write guest blog posts about their articles. In October 2013, the firstarticlewith a 100-word lay summary was published,which Hay and Touyz describe as “an important development for dissemination of research findings beyond the academic world”.

In addition to the high quality articles by eminent researchers published in the journal to date, a supplement was published in November, showcasing the presentation abstracts at the 2013Australia and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders(ANZAED) Conference.

One of the highlights in the past year was the announcement of the prize winners of theJournal of Eating Disordersawards.Tracey Wadewon the award for the Best Article by a Senior Author Advancing the Field of Eating Disorders 2013, for herarticleThe role of perfectionism in body dissatisfaction”, and Kristy Zwickert won the award for the Best Article by a Young Author Advancing the Field of Eating Disorders 2013, for herarticleStigmatizing attitudes towards individuals with anorexia nervosa: an investigation of attribution theory”. Both papers have over 10,000 accesses since their publication.
