Journal of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery joins BioMed Central


Journal of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, the official publication of theCanadian Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, has today published its first articles following transfer to BioMed Central.

The journal publishes original research, reviews, commentaries and short reports on all aspects and sub-specialties of otolaryngology-head & neck surgery, including, for example, pediatric and geriatric otolaryngology, otology/neurotology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

As well as research, the journal is also keen to publish ‘How I do it’ articles describing physicians’ preferred techniques which may either be completely new, a better version or the unique management of an existing method, or challenging problem, whether medical or diagnostic.

TheEditors-in-Chiefdescribe the evolution of the journal in theirEditorial; initially launched as a small national society journal in 1971, to an international print subscription journal in 2008 and now in 2013, a fully online, open access journal.

Other articles also published today include a retrospective review which defines potential risk factors for patients requiringblood transfusions due to severe epistaxis; patient survival outcomes of the rare malignancysinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC)based on treatment modality, and the comparison ofpercutaneously injected crushed cartilageto surgically implanted cartilage in a rabbit model.
